Ethernet Optical Module Market Forecast to 2022

According to market researcher Lightcounting.In 2021, global Ethernet optical module sales hit a new record of $4.6 billion, up 25% from 2020. As shown in the chart below, the market grew 32% in 2020 after declining 18% in 2019.LightCounting expects the market to slow to a CAGR of 14% from 2022 to 2027, but even with this modest growth, the global Ethernet optical module market will still reach $10 billion by 2027. The market will remain volatile, and LC's long-term forecast model is not designed to reflect this volatility, but provides reasonable five-year targets for the industry, as shown in Figure 1.

In the future, as new technologies such as AI and meta-universes continue to evolve, and as network traffic continues to grow consistently over the long term, Ethernet Optical Module sales will also continue to grow at a faster rate and continue to be iteratively upgraded. The Ethernet optical module market is expected to reach $10.011 billion by 2027.
LightCounting forecasts that the revenue growth of user-side (including telecom, datacom and enterprise network) Ethernet optical modules in 2022 will be 22.3%; the growth of 100G, 200G, 400G and 800G high-speed Ethernet optical module segments will be 33.3%. Benefiting from the construction of data centers, the Ethernet optical module market is also expected to grow further.LightCounting statistics show that in 2021, the shipment of 200G, 400G and 800G high-speed Ethernet optical modules reached 2.22 million units, and in 2022, it is expected to reach 6 million units, or more than 170% year-on-year, and 800G products are expected to gradually start releasing volume in 2022.
